Jonah & Leah during the 2015 Fun Bunch Season.

On March 19, 2016 I will celebrate my 13th birthday and my passage into adulthood under Jewish Law, my Bar Mitzvah. As it is customary, I am conducting a Mitzvah Project (Good Deed). I am attempting to raise money for the organization devenio, Inc. which runs the Fun Bunch, a soccer team for children with intellectual disabilities, such as my sister Leah.

During the Fall and Spring, Fun Bunch meets Saturday mornings in Bethesda. The children participating range from 5 to 16 years of age. Some children around my age, including me, volunteer for Fun Bunch and serve as the athletes’ helpers.

Last fall was the first season I volunteered and it was amazing. It was incredible to see the joy brought to each and every one of their faces as they scored a goal, or just gave the ball a very hard kick. My fellow volunteers had a great time congratulating them on their accomplishments, teaching them soccer skills, or even diving over their shots as they scored.

Unfortunately, the Fun Bunch does not have a coach for the spring season. That is why I am attempting to raise money to hire a coach from a professional soccer organization.  I encourage you to make a donation, so this amazing bunch of kids can have fun in the spring.  Please CLICK HERE to make a donation. Thank you very much!
