TEEN GALA

jOURney to inspire, a gala for teens creating change

A Night to Remember!

TEEN GALA

Devenio’s annual jOURney to inspire, a gala for teens creating change is planned BY teens and FOR teens in support of Devenio’s programs and events for individuals with disabilities and to also inspire students to use their voice to have a positive impact in their communities. The Teen Gala is held at The Fillmore in Silver Spring in the late winter and is a night of inspiration for teens in the DC metro area. Beginning with a red carpet and marquis lights welcoming the students, the evening offers speakers, performers, a silent auction, dinner and dancing for approximately five hundred high school students.

“Working on the inaugural jOURney to inspire teen gala taught me so much about our community and the impact I could have when you wish to see change in the world. I guarantee that attendees left with a lesson that they will value for the rest of their lives and that truly is what makes this event so special.” -Caleigh, 2020 Gala co-Chair

ENGAGING OUR COMMUNITY WITH

Honorary Chair

JAMIE WATTS

Jamie Watts, #jamierunstheworld. “There is nothing more powerful than getting involved with your community, especially as someone with a disability.” -May 2018 . Jamie is a local runner from Virginia, who has finished hundreds of races and happens to have cerebral palsy. In 2016, she ran 34 races in one year; however, Jamie “…didn’t think a marathon was on the table for her…”. Then in May 2018, she finished her first marathon in New Jersey when a race director gave her the opportunity. Leading up to race day, Jamie told a local reporter, “When I finish this accomplishment, it will be a team effort.” Jamie’s story is truly of an inspired community- one that made it happen as well as those she is able to share it with.

“I have never heard of an event like jOURney to inspire gala. My school does not have any students with disabilities, and it made me incredibly happy to see all of the attendees introduced to the disability community in such a cool way.” -Gala Volunteer, Program Participant Sibling
